All classes meet once a week for 4 weeks unless otherwise noted.
Pattern Making
PATTERN MAKING I: Basic
Section 1: 10:00-12:30PM
Section 2: 6:00-8:30PM
Duration: 4 weeks
This class lays the groundwork for understanding
flat pattern techniques. A basic quarter scale pattern
is used to study style, line changes, and structure.
Class focuses on the bodice, sleeves, skirts, and
pants. The notebook prepared by each student becomes
a permanent reference.

Pattern Making II: Intermediate
Section 1: 10:00-12:30PM

Duration: 4 weeks
A continuation and review of Pattern Making I. Students
work from their notebooks in order to execute the
garment from a sketch. The student drafts a blouse/dress,
jacket, and pants.
Prerequisite: Pattern Making I.

PATTERN MAKING III: Advanced, Dress

Duration: 4 weeks
Drafting from either a full size sloper or the students
personal sloper, students will complete the pattern
developement for the basic black dress to be executed
in Construction Techniques IV.
Prerequisites: Pattern Making I, II; Personal Pattern
Sloper I.

PATTERN MAKING IV: Advanced, Jacket

Drafting from either a full size sloper or the students
personal sloper, students will complete the pattern
development for the basic notch-collar jacket to
be used in sewing Techniques IV.
Prerequisite: Pattern Making I, II; Personal Pattern

Draping
PATTERN Draping I: Basic

Duration: 4 weeks
THis is an introduction to the art of draping. Each
student works on a dress form to learn the techniques
of design with fabric. The student learns dart placements
and movements, style lines, and how the body shape
creates a design. The course also gives the student
a chance to understand and solve basic fitting problems.
This is a complementary class to Pattern Making
I.

Draping II: Intermediate

A demonstration and practicum of couture-level advanced
dressmaking drapery techniques.

Sloper
PERSONAL PATTERN SLOPER I: Dress
Section 1: 10:00-12:30PM

Duration: 4 weeks
THe object of this course is to make a long sleeve
basic pattern sloper that will fit you perfectly.
This pattern sloper will serve as the basic dress
pattern for any design you wish to draft. Pattern
Making I is recommended as a prerequisite.

Night Class: 6:30-9:00PM only

THe object of this course is to make a personal
pant pattern sloper that will fit you perfectly.
This pattern sloper will serve as the basic pattern
for any pant design you wish to draft.
Prerequisites: Pattern Making I and Personal Pattern
Sloper.

Pattern Grading
PATTERN GRADING I
1 Saturday: 10:00AM-3:00PM
Duration: 1 day
Students learn the changes in body-shape and size with age change, and how
this relates to grading. Students learn to grade a basic pattern by the slash
and spread/overlap method.

PATTERN GRADING II

Duration: 1 day
Students learn the basic patern-shifting skills used itneh fashion industry
to grade patterns. Students take a basic pattern and grade up to a size larger
and down to a size smaller. This is also useful in making pattern adjustments.

PATTERN GRADING III

Students learn the advanced pattern-shifting skills used in the fashion industry
to grade patterns. Students take complex patterns and unusual pattern pieces
and grade up to a larger size and down to a smaller size.

MEASUREMENTS
2 Saturdays: 10:00AM-3:00PM
Duration: 2 days (Consecutive Saturdays)
Students learn to take a series of 28 measurements of the body as an aid to
the drafting and fitting of garments. In session 1 these measurements are
taken on the dress form. In session 2 they are taken on a professional fit
model.
Prerequisite: Permission of Director.

Garment Duplication
GARMENT DUPLICATION I
1 Saturday: 10:00AM-4:00PM
Duration: 1 day
Do you have a favorite garment you would like to be able to reproduce? In
these classes you will make a pattern from a garment without taking the garment
apart: tee shirts, sweat shirts and pants, elastic waist pants and skirts,
cardigan or ribbed trim jackets, camp shirts or shells.
Prequisite: Pattern Making I.

GARMENT DUPLICATION II

Duration: 1 day
This class is a continuation of Garment Duplication I. Students duplicate
advanced designs such as notched or shawl collar jackets, pleated pants, men's
shirts, ladies blouses or dresses.
Prerequisite: Pattern Making I and Garment Duplication I.
