HISTORY OF COSTUME: Prehistory to Middle Ages

Duration: 4 weeks
Presentation and discussion of fashion from prehistory through the middle
ages with emphasis on Near East, Greece, Rome, Byzantium and Middle Age Kingdoms.
Includes analysis of representative styles and colors. Also included are significant
individuals, inventions, techniques and materials.
Prerequisite: Fashion Illustration I, II or permission of Director.

Continuation of fashion history covering Renaissnace, 17th Century, 18th Century,
American and French Revolutions.
Prerequisite: Fashion Illustration I, II or permission of Director.

Continuation of fashion history covering the 19th and 20th centuries. Discussion
of future fashion.

HISTORY OF HAUTE-COUTURE

Duration: 4 weeks
Discussion and analysis of the Couture from its conception with Charles Worth
to the present. Includes significant couture houses, the couture garment and
the couture client. Also includes influence of couture on ready-to-wear and
its importance to prospective new designers.

HISTORY OF PERIOD FABRIC PATTERN
1 Saturday, 10:00-3:00PM
Duration: 1 day
This class is a visual introduction to peroid fabric design. It begins with
the early fabrics and designs of Egypt, Greece and Rome, continues with fabric
designs of the Middle Ages and ends with the Directoire, Empire and 19th Century
designs.
Prerequisite: Fashion History I, II, III strongly recommended
